We travel to remote areas because they are mostly pristine, and we want to be able to enjoy the beauty of them in future – therefore we want to protect and keep them as we found it or leave it in better state than when arrived.

Natural beautiful surroundings are assets that have no expiry date or gets less valuable with use. We want to protect these assets for all to enjoy in the future. Legally we are compelled to use the resources sustainably and to
protect it.

The following important guidelines must be adhered to by all in the group. The driver of each vehicle must ensure
that all in his/her company are aware of these important guidelines. This will also be addressed at the Welcome and
briefing session on day 1 of our tour and a copy will be supplied as part of the welcome pack.

1. Plan Ahead and Prepare:
• Detailed route planning will be provided by Offroad Routes and Tours to ensure that all are informed of the route and what to expect each day. Refer to the detailed travel plan, which was sent to all the drivers of the vehicles. Please share with the rest of your group.
• This will assist with which meals to prepare for and what supplies to take along for all participants.
• Details about the route will indicate where bathroom facilities are and where wild camping will be required – please make provision for eco-friendly toiletries in wild camping areas.
• Where required, Offroad Routes and Tours will obtain permission to enter certain areas – especially on private land.

2. Travel or Camp on Durable Surfaces:
• Our vehicles will only travel on established roads, paths, and tracks.
• No new tracks will be made.
• No off-trail driving will ever be permitted.
• All our campsites will be in established, designated campsites.
• When it may be needed to wild camp, we will choose a low-impact area like high-use areas, durable surfaces, or sandy riverbeds.

3. Dispose of Waste Properly:
• All human faeces must be buried in a cat-hole far away from water, campsites, moist ground, and frequent use places, or you carry a portable chemical toilet with you for when no other friendly options exist.
• Toilet paper must either be burned where no fire risk is present or be removed along with female hygienic products in Ziploc bags.
• No urination in or close to water because it spreads bilharzia.
• All other waste like tins, bottles, paper, cigarette butts and plastic must be carried out with the group and disposed in designated disposal facilities.

4. Leave what you find:
• No artefacts, plants, animals, or rocks may be removed from areas we visit.
• No new camp areas will be created beyond what already exists in an area.
• No cutting or gathering of firewood will be allowed.

5. Minimise campfire impacts:
• All firewood must be packed in by the participants unless the local campsite can supply bags of firewood. Minimum of 3 bags per vehicle.
• No firewood gathering is allowed, except along rivers where driftwood is available.
• Only use existing fireplaces or rings
• If a fire ring is used the fire must be accompanied by the person who puts the last piece of wood on the fire, until the coals are either completely burnt to ashes or extinguished with water. Afterwards any remaining
coals must be removed along with the litter.
• Where gas stoves are used, the supply must be shut off at night and when driving.

6. Respect Wildlife:
• Keep a safe distance from all wildlife as not to disturb them.
• No feeding of wild animals.
• Monkeys and baboons are very opportunistic when they see food in the open – please don’t display fruit or foods when camping.
•  Do not block access to water or food by setting up a camp in animals’ paths.

• If driving in vehicles do not exit the vehicle and keep noise down to a minimum when approaching animals. Park in such a manner that other vehicles can also get an opportunity to view the animal.

• Do not disturb water sources in arid areas.

7. Be considerate to others:
• No pets are allowed on any of our tours.
• We will allow ample photo opportunities for everyone.
• Keep noise to a minimum and avoid loud music.
• Do not frighten tame or wild animals.
• Shepherds and herds enjoy right of way.
• Leave all open gates open and close the gates that are found closed.
•  Please slow down when going through a farmyard.
